Progress (lack thereof...)

Yep, not a lot going on here.  Things always seem to get in the way.  Or maybe my priorities get in the way, because really I'm not that busy. Yet I am always impressed by how much I can get done if I sit down to sew for even a short while. So that's my goal for the remainder of this hustle: do at least something every day.

This is one of those posts that is more for me to organize my thoughts than anything else, so apologies if it's boring.

Here's the 100 day hustle list:

1. Monthly Guild Project - time to do the December block! Maybe I'll whip this out tonight, shouldn't take more than an hour
2. Jacket - bumped off the list to next year.
3. Charity wholecloth - also bumped. Also at the last guild meeting I picked up another charity quilt - "Race to the finish" It's a partial project that someone has abandoned, you just have to finish it.  This will be quick and easy but less time-sensitive than other things on this list.
4. Christmas presents. - Progress is made! This is going well. Can't post too much here, but I've pared down who gets what so I'm not killing myself sewing presents. I have three big projects and four little ones.  One big project is done, one almost done, one in progress. Little projects are waiting on fabric to arrive in the mail.
5. FMQ Challenge/placemats: The placemats are the practice swatches for the FMQ Challenge.  This has languished for FAR too long, so I think I will do a little tonight to get back into the swing of it.

Okay, that's not too overwhelming. Really I've booted most things off this list in order to get the FMQ challenge done. I think if I do one FMQ a week I'll get it done by the end of the year.

So, I am debating joining Bonnie Hunter's new mystery project. I really want to do more blog hops, quilt alongs, and other community-based quilting projects.  But I would need to buy a ton of fabric.  It's designed to be a "stash buster" but I don't have that big of a stash, certainly not 2-3 yards of three colors and 4 yards of background. That is a TON of fabric.  I might have a yard's worth of scraps in each color, but not enough for the full quilt. So if I wanted to do this mystery I would need to buy those colors, and I try to spend a lot on quilting, and buying um, 10 yards? of fabric will cost a lot.  Thoughts? Maybe I could get sale stuff? It's supposed to be scraps...

Seriously, I would love advice and opinions on that.  I just don't know if it's worth it, but at the same time I would love to participate.

Since there were no photos of projects this week, here's a shot of us on the coast this past weekend:

Okay, time to quilt!

  1. I'm in the same predicament as you. I've been so busy that I haven't really been able to sew too much. Would love to do Bonnie's Mystery quilt but I don't have the required fabrics. I have other projects I've started and should finish. My plans always get bumped for work, kids, etc. Anyways, I don't think I'll do the mystery quilt.

  2. Sale's are always good, clearance even better. Personally, I always got to connecting threads first :) I love the fabrics they have and shipping is always quick. Great customer service to. Bear claw quilting co. is another good one. We're supposed to be moving any day now, contracters are running over..... So if we get in our place soon I'm going to follow along and see what I can dig out that will fit the requirements. I hope you can add what you need to play to, but no mystery is worth breaking a budget either ;)
